Ms. Rana Flowers, UNICEF Representative and Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, General Secretary of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI)

14 September 2019: At the reception of Ms. Rana Flowers, UNICEF Representative, Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh. General Secretary of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) exchanged views on future cooperation directions.

In the discussion, Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh expressed his gratitude to UNICEF for its recent contribution to the project "Promoting the Children's Rights and Business Principles in Enterprises in Viet Nam". In particular, UNICEF's contribution to the success of the National Conference on Sustainable Development took place on 12 September during the seminar on "Human capital development".

General Secretary of VCCI said that the two sides will have more opportunities for cooperation in the future. Currently, UNICEF and VCCI are working together to implement the project "Promoting children's rights and business principles in businesses in Viet Nam" from 2019 to the end of 2021.

The project aims to enhance the understanding, capacity and commitment of key businesses that have a great impact on children, as well as to increase the participation of many stakeholders to create an enabling environment for businesses in respecting and supporting the Children's Rights in Vietnam.

Ms. Rana Flowers said that UNICEF attaches great importance to VCCI's role and experience in promoting the sustainability and social responsibility of businesses in the private sector as well as promoting business development in general. At the same time, UNICEF hopes that VCCI is not only a strategic partner but also a "guide" for UNICEF in business-related matters.

According to Rana, the role of businesses in promoting child and women's protection issues is extremely important. Therefore, UNICEF looks forward to the support and cooperation of VCCI - a national organization that gathers and represents the business community and entrepreneurs in Viet Nam, in promoting child issues and other Business principles in the enterprise. 

In the National Conference on Sustainable Development, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed that there will be a Resolution on Sustainable Development 2019 with new content and reality in the current context. VCCI also plays a part in contributing to this Resolution and encourages the participation of UNICEF in contributing to issues related to children, nutrition, poverty reduction, clean water and sanitation. environment, sustainable cities and communities, partnerships, etc.

Thereby, in the coming time, UNICEF and VCCI will sign a Memorandum of Agreement on establishing a cooperation program between UNICEF and VCCI in encouraging the business community to achieve sustainable development goals such as Goals. 1, 2 on eradication of poverty and hunger, Goal 8 on economic growth and decent work, Goal 17 on global partnership and other related goals.
